唐 至 元 稱奉祀 呂望 的廟。 明 清 時稱供奉 關羽 的關帝廟。 民國 時合祀 關羽 、 岳飛 的關岳廟也叫“武廟”。同“ 文廟 ”相對。 清 趙翼 《陔馀叢考·關壯繆》：“ 萬歷 二十二年，因道士 張通元 之請，進爵為帝，廟曰英烈……繼又崇為武廟，與 孔 廟并祀。”
